![]() ![]() The Soldier is a middle-aged man from the American midwest. He is excellent at killing Medics and Demomen. His default weapons include a scattergun, a pistol, and a baseball bat. However, he also is tied for the lowest health of any class. Also, he captures control points at twice the speed of any other class. He is the fastest runner in the game, making him a good class to use in capture the flag, as he can run in, grab the enemy team's briefcase, and run out. The Scout is a young man from Boston with an interest in baseball. These classes have abilities that make them best suited for attacking the other team, but also easy to kill. The offensive classes are the Scout, the Soldier, and the Pyro. In general, the different weapons are not upgrades, but rather 'side-grades.' They are better at certain times, while worse at other times. For example, the Soldier could change his normal rocket launcher into 'The Direct Hit.' It shoots faster, stronger rockets at the cost of having a smaller explosion size. Also, each class can change their weapons to different ones that they find over time or make from scrap metal. Each class has its own strengths and weaknesses, causing the classes to rely on each other to win, promoting teamwork. The classes are split into groups of three, which are offense, defense and support. It was later released separately for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac computers. The game was first released in October of 2007 in The Orange Box, a package with Half Life 2, Portal and Team Fortress 2. The game is also takes inspiration from many famous spy movies and TV shows, taking elements from James Bond, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and Get Smart. The game is set in 1968, in an alternate history. There are many different game modes, such as Payload, which has one team pushing a cart along a track while the other team tries to stop them, and a version of Capture the Flag, where players must capture a briefcase with important papers. Players can choose which one of these classes they want to play, and can change classes in the middle of a round. The game has nine characters, called classes. ![]() It is made by Valve Corporation, who develops and publishes the game. This is not a good thing for gamers.Team Fortress 2 ( TF2) is a free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter video game. Valve wants to give gamers as much value for the original asking price as possible, and Microsoft is seeing the game as a profit base. Certification and quality assurance are good things for keeping the general caliber of content satisfactory, but not if developers are punished for improving their software. This is a problem that Microsoft really needs to fix. While it's still a bit of a stiff price to pay for updates free for PC gamers, at least Valve did the right thing and waited until a substantial amount of content was available. Microsoft is apparently requiring the company to charge for the add-ons, so Valve says that it wanted to wait until there was enough content in the pack to warrant the purchase. The Medic, Pyro, and Heavy updates-complete with all the new achievements, weapons, and maps-is slated to land around the 800 Microsoft Points ($10) mark. Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed this week at GC 2008 in Leipzig that the updates would be coming as a full expansion to the Xbox 360 version later this year. However, it appears Xbox 360 gamers will finally be getting the content that PC gamers have been enjoying for quite some time. Team Fortress 2 for the Xbox 360 has long suffered from lacking updates as a result of Microsoft's online policies, which have seemingly kept Valve from releasing free patches for the game. ![]()
